Isle Royale's history and future: what will become of the Isle Royale families?

The National Park Service (NPS) is currently developing a plan for Isle Royale National Park (IRNP) that will decide the fate of several North Shore families with historic ties to the island.  One of those families is the Sivertsons.  In this feature from the WTIP news department, third generation Isle Royale commercial fisherman Stuart Sivertson offers his perspective on his family's long connection to the island.  Sivertson also weighs in on the Park Service's Cultural Resource Management Plan (CRMP) process and what it could mean for his and the other Isle Royale families. 

The Park Service is accepting public comment on a set of preliminary questions about Isle Royale's cultural resources until January 16.  Park staff say there will be additional opportunites to submit comments as the Cultural Resource Management Plan process moves forward.  The plan is expected to take about two years to complete.   To comment, go to www.parkplanning.nps.gov/comment.
