According to the Minnesota Department of Natural resources, it’s time to think about removing ice fishing shelters from inland lakes. Dark houses and fish houses as well as portables must be off inland lake ice by midnight March 1 in the southern two-thirds of the state and by March 15 in the northern third.

Shelters on Minnesota-Wisconsin border lakes need to off by March 1 and by March 31 on Minnesota-Canada border lakes.

If ice fishing shelters are not removed anglers will be prosecuted. Conservation Officers may remove shelters and confiscate or destroy them.  All garbage and blocking materials used on the ice must also be removed by the above dates.
