Five ARAC grant awards given locally

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council has announced a number of grants to be awarded in two categories: Rural and Community Arts and in Arts and Cultural Heritage Community Arts Learning.

Good Harbor Hill Players of Grand Marais will use a $3,000 grant to create and perform an original shadow puppet show with live music. The production is set to observe the Winter Solstice outdoors on the harbor in Grand Marais on December 21.
 
The Ely Winter Festival also received $3,000 to produce the annual Snow Sculpture Symposium. The popular activity features carving giant snow sculptures in Whiteside Park by local, regional and international artists from February 2 to the 12th.
 
And, the Ely ArtWalk – pocketed $3,000 to produce its annual 11-day winter art show which coincides with the Winter Festival.
 
Hazel Belvo of Grand Marais received $5,000 to create a two-week art appreciation experience for the community of Grand Marais and Cook County consisting of an open studio and lectures.
 
The North Shore Music Association was also awarded $5,000 to present the Grammy Award winning Parker Quartet offering a full day of K-12 workshops and an all ages evening performance at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.
 
The funding for these grants is made available by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
