Fire restrictions will go into effect for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the Tofte and Gunflint districts only starting Friday August 30th at 12:01 a.m. Restrictions are what the Forest Service calls “hoot owl” so campfires will only be allowed from 7 p.m. until midnight.

WTIP’s Jay Andersen spoke with Superior National Forest fire officer Tracy Richards about the two small boundary waters fires in progress.
