A Grand Marais man who discovered his wife was having an affair is accused of using a crowbar, knife and gun to force the other man to have sexual relations with his wife.

Fifty-two-year-old Kevin Robert Thompson is charged with kidnapping, assault, terroristic threats, false imprisonment and second degree criminal sexual conduct. His wife, Susan Ann Thompson, is charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and false imprisonment.

The alleged eight-to-nine hour incident happened May 15-16. Prosecutor Tim Scannell filed his probable cause brief on Friday.

A criminal complaint said the 43-year-old alleged victim and Thompson’s 40-year-old wife were having an affair. The complaint quotes the man as saying Kevin Thompson discovered them and secured him with plastic ties and duct tape and loosely restrained his wife.

Kevin Thompson’s attorney says the alleged victim got caught and is making it look like Kevin Thompson is a criminal. An attorney for Susan Thompson says the wife had no knowledge of what was going to happen.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Kenneth Sandvik has 90 days to issue a ruling on whether or not there is probable cause to proceed with the matter.
