The strobe lights on the Honeymoon tower have been annoying area residents for a long time. That’s about to end with the blessing of the Cook County Board.
Duane Ege, the county’s contracted communications technician told commissioners Tuesday they could save over $1,900 a year by turning off the tower strobe light at night, replacing it with red LED lights and turning the strobe back on during the day.
Ege told the board the new LED design does not direct the light downward, where it bothers people living near the tower. The lighting change is supported by the 20 or so residents living in the Honeymoon tower area.
