Cook County athlete selected for state All-Star Basketball Team

Cook County senior Essa Jacobsen has been selected to play in the 2010 Minnesota Girls High School All-Star Basketball Series. The teams are made up of ten girls in each of the four classes in Minnesota. This means that Essa has been selected as one of the top ten players out of 160 Class A teams. Viking Malinda Berglund also won the all-star honor during her senior year of 2001-2002.

The Cook County Vikings play Barnum at the ISD-166 gym on Friday, Feb. 26 to end the regular season of girls’ basketball. Barnum comes into the game with a 23-2 record and a number two Class A ranking. The Vikings are 21-3.

WTIP will be broadcasting the basketball double-header live from the Grand Marais gym Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. with the pregame program. Norman Moe and Dick Dorr will be on hand to talk about the upcoming games before the girls tip off at 4:45. The Vikings’ boys will play Barnum at 6:30. Barnum comes into the boys’ game at 19-3 while Cook County is 7-11.
