Beginning May 1, fee permits are required to enter the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Reservations can be made on line at www.recreation.gov and permits need to be picked up at the appropriate Ranger station.

The Tofte and Gunflint Ranger District offices will be open for permit pick-up from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 1 through 25. From May 26 through the summer to Sept. 5, hours are between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Forest Service is advising early spring visitors to take extra caution while driving roads on the Superior National Forest this spring.  Snow, water, and partially-thawed conditions continue to cause hazards in some areas.
