The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced that as of today, May 12, open burning restrictions will be lifted in many counties and normal spring burning practices may resume. But restrictions will remain in the far northeastern part of the state, where cool temperatures and insufficient rains have slowed the green up of vegetation. Among those counties still under burning restrictions are Cook, Lake and St. Louis.

Campfires will only be allowed in designated fire rings associated with a residence, resort, or developed public or private campground. Campfires at remote locations will not be allowed. In addition, fireworks are still forbidden.
