The U.S. Forest Service is reopening some areas of the Superior National Forest for public use.

The areas had been closed because of a forest fire burning in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. But because of extended cool weather and precipitation, the Forest Service is reopening some of those areas.

Most of the previously closed area outside the BWCA will be open. Also reopening is a section of the BWCA including the Lady Chain north to and including the Kekekabic Hiking Trail.

A small portion of the BWCA, including the Pow Wow Hiking Trail and Forest Road 377 leading to Forest Center, will remain closed.
