Anishinaabe Way: Lives, Words and Stories of Ojibwe People

"Anishinaabe Way: Lives, Words and Stories of Ojibwe People" is a radio series that explores the many facets of Ojibwe life.  As part of the series you will hear the words and stories of Anishinaabe people, including artists, poets, doctors, scientists, elders and children.

"Anishinaabe Way: Lives, Words and Stories of Ojibwe People" is an original series produced by Staci Lola Drouillard. Staci is a descendent of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa who lives in her hometown of Grand Marais, Minnesota.  Music for the series is by Minnesota Ojibwe artist, Keith Secola.

Funding for the series is provided by the Minnesota Legacy Fund and WTIP, Community Radio.

Anishinaabe Way: Anna Deschampe & Allan Aubid

Anna Deschampe and Allan Aubid are the parents of two young sons. They live on the Grand Portage Reservation in northern Minnesota.

In this edition of Anishinaabe Way, Deschampe and Aubid discuss raising children to have traditional values while living in mainstream society, and the role of the community and elders in parenting. They also share the lessons they have learned along the way and the dreams they have for their kids.

Fond du Lac elder Rick DeFoe gave a brief interview while attending an anti-sulfide mining rally in Duluth, Minneosta in March of 2012, for this edition of Anishinaabe Way. 

He discusses the role of tribes in protecting clean water, including children in such activities, and talks about the importance of eagles to Anishinaabe people.

This edition of Anishinaabe Way features Dr. Joycelyn Dorscher, an Ojibwe Family Practice Doctor who also heads the Center of American Indian and Minority Health at the U of MN Medical School. She discusses her path to becoming a physician, the cultural challenges faced by Native medical students and issues surrounding Indian health.
