AEOA offers Home Energy Improvement Program to homeowners

The Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency (AEOA), Kootasaca Community Action, and Lakes & Pines Community Action Council are pleased to announce the "Home Energy Improvement Program." (Click on audio mp3 above to hear an interview with AEOA Director of Housing Services Scott Zahorik.)

This program is to provide grants to eligible homeowners and rental units of 4 or less in the Taconite Assistance Area. Grant funds can be used to improve owner occupied and rental properties for households and tenants whose income is over the traditional guidelines for other existing programs. The eligible program improvements are to promote energy conservation and efficiency improvements.

Eligible Applicants: 
Owner occupied single family homes or rental units, of four units or less, whose gross household income is between $40,000 to $80,000 per year. Income will be averaged from the two years prior to the application and projected for the next twelve months. 

Eligible Activities: 
Window Replacement Door Replacement 
Furnace Replacement and Ductwork Upgrades 
Water Heater Replacement 
Wall and Ceiling Insulation Upgrades 
Roofing Replacement 
Siding Replacement 
Wind, Solar, and Geothermal Installations

Loan Specifics: 
Minimum grant $2,500 - Maximum grant awarded $10,000 
35% of the total project cost for households or tenants with income from $40,000 - $60,000 
25% of the total project cost for households or tenants with income from $60,001 - $80,000

Homeowner Responsibility: 
Homeowner must pay 65% or 75% of the total eligible rehab cost. As part of this program, the homeowner must show proof of where these funds are coming from.
