Community members share stories and memories of Frank Moe

There is a collective sorrow in the WTIP, Cook County, Boundary Waters and mushing communities at this time with the passing of Frank Moe of Hovland.

Just days after beginning hospice care, Frank passed away on Jan. 12, leaving behind a legacy of environmental advocacy, community service, an amazing mushing career, and countless friends made along the way.

Frank was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer in 2021 and in August underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. The trail has been rough since that time with many twists and turns. Ultimately, Frank opted to end treatment for cancer in early January. He died several days later. He was 56.

WTIP has reached out to some of Frank’s friends and colleagues to remember this community leader. Here are their stories.
