Community leaders open conversation on racial inequity in Cook County
The Cook County Board of Commissioners were busy Aug. 25 with multiple meetings and timely discussions.
Topics discussed during a regularly scheduled board meeting included increases to various permits through the land services department, budget discussions for the highway and sheriff’s departments, travel reimbursement for county administrator candidates and more.
Also Tuesday, a ‘joint powers’ meeting was held with various agencies and organizations throughout the county to discuss racial inequities in Cook County. Joining the commissioners and other county staff on this discussion were representatives from the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the Grand Marais City Council, Cook County Higher Education, the Economic Development Authority, ISD 166 and the local hospital.
WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Interim County Administrator Rena Rogers about a busy week in local government.
