The Cook County Board of Commissioners are planning to address resettlement of refugees within county lines. The topic is on the agenda for a meeting of the county board scheduled for Jan. 14 in the commissioners’ room at the Cook County Courthouse in Grand Marais.

The topic of refugee resettlement is garnering national attention with a spotlight on Minnesota following a vote Jan. 7 by officials in Beltrami County. Their vote during a packed-house meeting of the county board was to deny consent to refugee resettlement.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Cook County Board Chair Myron Bursheim about his plans for dealing with large crowds and topics that generate passion and controversy, as was the case in Beltrami County around this same topic.

Stay tuned to WTIP this week for an update on the discussion by the commissioners scheduled for Jan. 14  about refugee resettlement in Cook County.
