Commissioner Ginny Storlie selected as 2018 board chair

There was a meeting of the Cook County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Jan. 2. This was a special meeting of the county board, one that takes place annually near the start of January. The purpose of the meeting is to choose which commissioner will be the board chair, the various committees the commissioners will serve on and other required resolutions the board must fulfill annually.

For 2018, Commissioner Ginny Storlie will be the board chair for the Cook County commissioners. Commissioner Myron Bursheim will serve as vice chair.

At the start of Tuesday’s meeting the commissioners and County Administrator Jeff Cadwell discussed who would serve as board chair for 2018. Prior to nominating a potential candidate to serve as board chair, there was discussion about the process of selecting a chairperson. At a meeting in late December the commissioners discussed implementing a rotating role for the board chair, where each district representative would serve on an annual basis. For example, the chair would be the District 1 Commissioner in 2018, District 2 Commissioner in 2019, etc.

However, Cadwell suggested that the board maintain their previous means of choosing a board chair by using a motion-and-vote process. Ultimately, this is how the board chose to move forward in 2018 and Commissioner Storlie was selected as the board chair. Moments later, Commissioner Bursheim was selected to be the vice chair in 2018.
