-On November 3rd 2009, Cook County voters overwhelmingly approved a 1% local option sales tax.
Hovland couple at Madison capitol collective bargaining protests
-Dan and Lee Ross are artists who make their home in Hovland. They recently returned from a trip to visit family in Madison, Wisconsin where they have often participated in a large art fair.
Rec Park bathhouse goes solar
-Last week a small crew—helped by a crane—hoisted solar panels onto the roof of a bathhouse in the Grand Marais Rec Park. Mark Morgan is installing the panels on the bathhouse roof.
Empty Bowls fundraiser draws attention to growing demand for food support
-Empty Bowls, an international event to raise money to fight hunger while promoting art and community action, takes place at the First Congregation Church in Grand Marais this coming Thursday.
WTIP Election Night Roundup
-The election turnout in Cook County was once again large with 77 percent of registered voters casting their ballots. The highest turnout was in Cascade Precinct 7 with 89 percent of the eligible voters voting.
Early childhood education, economic development and the school referendum
-Cook County Schools ISD 166 is going to voters for approval of a property tax increase to help support and sustain the district’s operations. A small part of what the levy would preserve is money designated for early childhood education: education for kids before kindergarten and support for their families.
