Ig Nobel Prizes honor research that makes you laugh, then makes you think

Bob Carter chatted with Marc Abrahams, editor of "Annals of Improbable Research, " about the 2014 Ig Nobel prizes recently awarded at Harvard University. Research topics included the physics of stepping on a banana skin, the brain qualities of people who see Jesus in toast, and possible mental hazards of cat ownership. A study just published in the Journal of Behavioral Addiction found that among college students, men spend nearly eight hours a day on their cell phones, while women spend 10. Ann chatted with the author of the study, Dr. James Roberts of Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business, to learn more about what's happening and how it's affecting academics, relationships, and more.


 

Urban Boatbuilders creates positive change in youth through building boats

Marc Hosmer is executive director of Urban Boatbuilders, a St. Paul-based nonprofit that works with schools, community organizations, and correction facilities to help young people learn craftsmanship and social skills through building boats.
