Canadian family shares story of lightning strike in Quetico Provincial Park

Though many of the traditional entrances to Quetico Provincial Park are closed to visitors entering from the U.S. this summer due to the border closure and the ongoing health pandemic, the Canadian wilderness park is open to the public. The park, which sits adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, is largely being visited by Canadian paddlers this summer.

A family from Thunder Bay was camping in Quetico July 18 on Pickerel Lake when their campsite took a direct hit by lightning. They all survived the ordeal unhurt, thanks to some quick thinking on their part.

Ian Gill, one of the group members involved in the incident, spoke with WTIP’s Mark Abrahamson about the ordeal. You can hear the full story in the audio posted below.
