Assessor discusses property values in Cook County

The Cook County Commissioners approved a preliminary levy of 19.9 percent during a meeting Sept. 19.

Commissioners can now lower the levy before Dec. 31, but the percentage cannot increase.

The 2018 proposed property taxpayer levy is at $9,035,657. In 2017 that figure was $7,863,947.

Meanwhile, the county assessor’s office continues its work in calculating the value of land, homes and other similar property in Cook County. WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Cook County Assessor Todd Smith about the process of determining local property values.
