Appointments fill up for COVID vaccination event in Cook County this week
Less than 24 hours after registration opened to the public, an event to vaccinate Cook County residents who are age 75 and older this week is full.
Local residents who are 75 or older were able to register for an event this Thursday. The online registration opened at 11 a.m. yesterday. By this morning the event was marked as full. There were an estimated 200 time slots available for local residents in this age group to receive the vaccine.
During a live interview that aired yesterday on WTIP, Public Health Supervisor Grace Grinager shared many of the details involved with both registration and the vaccination event scheduled for Jan. 28. An estimated 200 people age 75 or older who are Cook County residents will get vaccinated this week during the event. Hundreds more could be eligible for vaccines each subsequent week.
Public health officials will continue to vaccinate local residents based on their age, moving next into the 65 and older age group.
As of Jan. 21, more than 12 percent of the population in Cook County has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, compared with less than 5 percent of the population statewide.
The next sign up date will be Monday, Feb. 1 starting at 8 a.m.
