The Cook County High School Alpine ski team had a successful day of racing at Lutsen Mountains on January 26. After the meet, Alpine Coach Charles Lamb shared the final results for the day.

In the girls’ competition, Brainerd tied Marshall with 166 points. In the event of a tie, the time of each team’s 5th fastest racer’s time is used (instead of the usual top four). Adding in that additional racer, the Brainerd girls took 1st place and Marshall was 2nd.

Hermantown was 3rd with 163 points.

The Cook County girls finished with 158 points for 4th in a very close race, reports Coach Lamb.
Reilly Wahlers came in 4th. Sela Backstrom was 8th, Halle Lamb 18th, and Hanna Borson was 24th.

The Cook County boys captured 1st place with 146 points.  East was in 2nd place with 120 points and Hibbing finished 3rd with 112 points.

For the Cook County boys, Will Lamb finished 1st.  Logan Backstrom was 4th.  Will Surbaugh was 7th and Masen McKeever, 10th.

Next up for the Alpine Vikings is a Cloquet-Esko-Carlton (CEC) Invite at Spirit Mountain on Thursday, February 2 and then Sections at Giants Ridge on Thursday, February 7. Both meets start at 10 a.m.

WTIP’s Rhonda Silence caught up with some of the skiers as they waited for their second run during the Koo Koo Invite at at Lutsen Mountains.
