Sylvia Galbraith, a former Cook County resident, moved back to the North Shore in 2019 after 20 years away. This fall she launched a new business in her former hometown of Lutsen. Galbraith is the owner of 47 Degrees North.

47 Degrees North offers a variety of services for quilters. Galbraith has quilting materials, patterns, and supplies and she is willing to take on custom quilt designs. And perhaps most exciting for those who create and design quilts, she has a long-arm sewing machine, which can help with backing and batting of the largest of projects.

47 Degrees North also provides window treatment services under Heavy Duty Window Treatments. Galbraith has samples of an array of blinds from Hunter Douglas and Graber Blinds. She works with homeowners to determine what size, color, opacity, and design best fits their decor.

Galbraith said it is exciting to be back on the North Shore, seeing old friends and new. She encourages people to stop by and see the store upstairs in the Clearview building in Lutsen.

She reminds visitors that there are changes to the Clearview building. Because of construction, there is no entrance through the former Great Gifts store and up the stairs. The best way to reach 47 Degrees North is to drive around the building (on the road between Clearview and the Cascade Vacation Rental/Credit Union building). That entrance is a handicap accessible entrance.
