Local basketball seasons under way in Cook County

The basketball season is under way for the local high school basketball teams.

The Vikings girls kicked off their season Nov. 30 with a home overtime win against Silver Bay, 44-39.
 
Both teams traveled to Two Harbors on Friday.  The boys won their season opener by a score of 63-60.  The girls were defeated, 62-29.  For the girls, Sophie Eliasen had 23 points, with Abbie Crawford and Paisley Smith adding three each. 

"We are a young team and it’s early in the season," said  Head Coach Kelly Hawsen. "We had a couple of early fouls resulting in early substitutions with a very young bench playing some solid minutes."
 
Coming up this week:
Thursday, Dec. 15 – Boys and girls at Babbit against Northeast Range, girls at 4:45 p.m. followed by the boys at 6:30. 

Friday, Dec. 16 – Boys at home against Thunder Bay at 4:30 p.m. (This is a change from previously scheduled)
