David Grinstead has studied photography since the day his older brother Bob loaned him a Nikon F1 camera in 1966. That first experience prompted him to shoot black and white photography for his college paper. Grinstead was more interested in frogs and sunrises than the politics and personalities of academia and soon began concentrating on nature and natural landscape photography. Grinstead went digital in 1999 at the urging of famed north woods photographer Jim Brandenburg. Grinstead always has a camera within reach and keeps a constant vigil on the light wherever he happens to be. He enjoys the big atmosphere around Lake Superior and also appreciates the big sunscapes of the deserts of New Mexico.
